Minaret, Eger

(160 reviews on the web)
Landmark
A soaring structure dominating the skyline of Eger, Minaret remains one of the city's main claims to fame. In a town packed with landmark buildings, this structure rises above the surrounding area and reminds visitors of a time when Ottoman Turks ruled this part of Europe. Constructed in the 17th century, the minaret stands 40 m (130 ft) and offers unbeatable views of the city center. One of only three remaining minarets in all of Hungary, it draws huge crowds on a daily basis. If you don't like heights and tight spaces, see what the minaret looks like from the city's famous castle. Arrange your visit to Minaret and discover more family-friendly attractions in Eger using our Eger vacation route planner.

  • On a rainy morning, I wanted to check out the minaretet! The lady who gave the ticket rezzenéstelenül watched as up I go, that I had but half way between a narrow spiral staircase, that I gave up! Airless, cramped! I can't imagine that a backward coming from me how to fit in!? I did not like!

  • Around the Minaret is Walker viewpoint a wide with less than a metre, the bed up to half of the adult human. Due to the fact that by passing on the stairs leading up to it is not possible, visitors will enter the Museum in small groups, which together form and together with the Minaret descend. View from the balcony is memorable (I rely on pictures taken by her husband, because I have not decided to enter:-)). I advise against climbing on top with small children

  • The tower is the northernmost point of the Turkish empire when they ruled Hungary temporarily. Walk by and see it, and pay the 300 HUF to climb it for a quick 97 step to a beautiful view of eger. Very...  more »

  • Entrance fee 300HUF, not for claustrophobic or height intolerant people. Way back down is hardest - try not to slip on stairs.
  • Worth to see the view from the minaret's gallery. A journey though dark, narrow and tight stairs is not for people suffering with claustrophobia...
  • Loved it but this is a replica only. Steps are very tiny.
  • A quick must see sight in Eger.
