  • It was built in 1896 in wood and papier-mâché in celebration of the Millennium of the birth of Hungary to present the history of Hungarian architecture. The construction was so successful that later it was decided to rebuild it in stone. The elements contained in it are all copies of 21 buildings, scattered around the Country, while the idea of form it was copied from the original Castle Vajdahunyad Castle, which is located in Transylvania! It is surrounded by a lake that gives a fairytale touch to the big picture and that, in winter, is transformed into an ice rink. Recommended!

  • A lovely place for a walk. We went in the evening so it was all lit up - very beautiful. It is surrounded by a spacious park and the river. Definitely worth a stroll. Strongly recommend that you wait ...  more »
  • The reviews below are completely untrue: the place and the truth is very beautiful and fascinating, but evenly until you learn that it is just scenery. Worth a visit, but for the sake of mere aesthetic pleasure

  • The exterior is charming. For me, it was much like looking at the Disneyland castle - it's a pretty castle, but if you love castles for their history, this one won't do it for you. I never should have gone. My boyfriend, on the other hand, loved it. He doesn't care a bit about history. So there you have it. The grounds are green and well cared for with benches to sit on. There are cafes to eat at and even a small park. The Museum of Agriculture and the Statue of Anonymous, both interesting to see, are nearby.
  • One of my favorite places in Hungary. I love walking around in the park as well. You can find many historical sights, statues, and the lake around the castle is simply magical, specially at night. In the winter time you also can do ice skating.
  • Interesting castle with gorgeous statues and architecture inside and out. Houses the agricultural museum, a church, restaurant/cafe etc. Surrounded by the city park, lake & a pretty moat to sit out by. On line 1 of the metro.
  • The castle is situated in a very lovely place, with many options and attractions aside from the castle itself. Vidam park is right beside it and on weekends have many activities as I saw classes for tightrope walking and martial arts, and just to its side is the Budapest Zoo. Although I didn't go inside and visit the Museum of Agriculture, the exterior of the castle was enough to make our jaws drop as it clearly shows that it's a culmination of very different architectural styles, each distinct, and each section with clear demarcations yet in totality, it was one fluid piece of an architectural marvel. The souvenir shop also offers a good selection of gifts.
  • A wonderful perk to have an ancient castle next to a gorgeous city park. Fabulous architecture and lots of amazing sculptures. A short and beautiful walk off the park.
