Vaci Street, Budapest

#5 of 64 in Shopping in Hungary
Neighborhood Shopping
Get your fill of shopping as you stroll down Vaci Street, the main retail street in Budapest. This pedestrian zone is famous for its high density of shops, restaurants, and cafes. Since the 18th century, it has been one of the city's main streets. In medieval times, the length of this street equaled the entire length of Pest. Wander the crowded walkway, people-watch at a cafe, or stop into one of the area's well-known shops, including Zara, H&M, Swarovski, and Nike, as well as local galleries and stores. See Vaci Street and all Budapest has to offer by arranging your trip with our Budapest vacation planner.

  • This street is still the most famous, and for a good reason, but because of that can get really crowded.  more »
  • I read several reviews, some positive and others negative. The TRUTH is that Vaci Utca is just the way of the walk, at all hours of the day, but especially in the afternoons and evenings, since it is filled with lights and music, with restaurants and shops open even after dinner. But I noticed that after 22 is mostly closed, including many restaurants. It's an irresistible attraction, especially for tourists. Many say it is the shopping street, but in my opinion it is only partly true, because you do not find the big names, but only stores that are in all cities, brands like Zara, H & M, Stradivarius, CA, etc. is a very long Street, Central, and almost anywhere YOU WANT to GO YOU HAVE to GO through. That's why she became famous: even by mistake, but we have to go. Anyway I liked it a lot, and feature unique in the city.

  • Great place to chill, do a bit of shopping and eat great traditional food. The best thing is that most of the street is forbidden to cars and that makes it very peaceful.  more »

Where to stay in Budapest

Attracting countless visitors with its architecture, history, and atmosphere, Budapest also provides a great selection of places to stay. The city’s hotels include everything from cozy and economical boutique establishments to luxurious world-renowned chains. Alternatively, choose from the huge variety of bed and breakfasts and hostels, as well as rental apartments ranging from economic to deluxe. While accommodations are spread throughout the city, more of them cluster on the livelier Pest side. You may want to place yourself near the sights you want to see most, but keep in mind that the city's wide public transportation network makes it relatively easy to reach all the major attractions no matter where you’re staying.
