Tropicarium, Budapest
(4/5 based on 280+ reviews on the web)
Part aquarium and part zoo, Tropicarium houses a variety of animals from all over the world, including exotic amphibians and reptiles, tropical birds, monkeys, fish, and sharks. Displays are themed around plant and animal life of the ocean, rain forests, and the native species of Hungary. All information is given in both Hungarian and English. Get up close to six large sharks in the 12 m (40 ft) glass observation tunnel. Stop by the Ray Tank, where you have the chance to touch the stingrays. Keep in mind that the complex is quite far from the city center, and will be found the most entertaining by children. • A bit out of the way, but a nice attraction, I must admit there are better zoos and aquariums but if you're passing by you should visit. There is also a pool where you can pet the stingrays, a tunnel ...  more »
  • A quick stop over from our 2-day family trip in Budapest. Tropicarium has a good selection of insects, animals and fishes to see..enough for my 4year old son to enjoy and not get overwhelmed. The only...  more »
  • Budapest History Museum is located in the commercial center, is a smaller, but well worth the spectacle. The most beautiful is the tunnel with sharks, it was really beautiful. I liked it very much.

  • The Tropicarium is located on the Buda side, inside a large shopping mall. It takes about 30 minutes getting there, using public transportation from downtown. We are a family of 2 adults and 2 kids (11.5 & 8). There is a variety of animals, from snakes and a crocodile, to cute monkeys and a huge aquarium filled with beautiful fish and fearsome looking sharks. Snakes and sharks feeding can be viewed by the visitors. We planned ahead to make sure we arrive to these feeding. The snakes were fed with dead mice. You should see the expression on the kids face while they lose their innocence watching a snake snatch up the dead mouse from the feeders… The shark feeding was done by scuba divers diving into the aquarium, swimming along the fish and sharks, hand feeding the sharks with dead fish from their buckets. We were excited and enjoyed the Tropicarium for over 2 hours.
  • A great place to visit if you are in Budapest if you dont have the time to visit the city zoo, has a lot of animals and the main atraction is the big fish tank with sharks.
  • I can understand that there are no whales, but cant understand that there are NO sea stars, no octopus, no crabs.. :(
  • Good experience for both children and adults. Freshwater and marine fishes, ray petting.
  • It is not big, but interesting and good. Good place for photoshoot.
