Matthias Fountain, Budapest

4.6
See the iconic Matthias Fountain, one of the most photographed monuments in the capital city. Located in a courtyard of Buda Castle, the monument depicts Matthias Corvinus, a famed king, and his hunting party. Notice the king's coat of arms decorating the niche above the hunters. The bronze female figure to the right is Szép Ilonka, the young woman the king fell in love with while he was disguised as a commoner. When Szép Ilonka discovered his identity, she decided their love was impossible and died of a broken heart. She is immortalized in the fountain, forever looking at her lover. A beautiful Fountain with a great history. It is very nice both day and night since it changes with the light.

It's a beautiful fountain on the castle grounds. There is no charge to see this fountain. It depicts King Matyas as a hunter with hunting animals.  more »

Within Buda Castle is located the source of Matias, I recommend making a tour of the neighborhood of Buddha and you soak with stories that made from the 896 Hungarians to build its history

The Matthias Fountain built in the western forecourt of Buda Palace was built in Neo-Baroque style and was inaugurated in 1904. The statuary group depicts a hunting party led by Matthias Corvinus, the king of Hungary. Sometimes is compared with Trevi Fountain in Rome.
