Kiraly Baths, Budapest

#3 of 37 in Spas in Budapest
Architectural Building Spa / Wellness
Relax in one of the octogonal pools illuminated by holes in the 16th century Ottoman dome at Kiraly Baths, the city's oldest thermal baths. One of the few baths in the city with its own source of thermal water, this space has remained largely unchanged from its original state, making you feel like you are stepping back in time. The baths, pools, and Jacuzzi are all unisex facilities. Bring your own swimsuit, towel, and flip flops, and store your personal belongings in the secure lockers. Note that children are not permitted at the baths. Put Kiraly Baths into our Budapest trip itinerary maker to see other points of interest to visit during your vacation in Budapest.

  • This is in my opinion the best place to go to experience the authentic Hungarian Turkish style baths.  more »
  • We chose Kiraly Baths over the more well known baths after a bit of research and asking around. We LOVED these Baths; although the building looks non-descript, there are no frills, it is also very aut...  more »

  • This is about as authentic a place can be. When we visited, we were the only tourists. All vital info was however available in English. The entrance fee was payable with credit card, but the deposit (4'000Ft) for towel rental was cash only. Very good variety of bath temperatures are available (28, 36 and 40°C), plus an outdoors wooden hot tub and a jacuzzi (contemporary, in contrast to all other facilities, which seem more or less untouched for at least a few decades). The main bath court (about 20m diameter) is as taken from a medieval monastery, with a perforated cupola for a ceiling, and all stone interior. Adjacent, behind an unassuming unmarked door, is a steam sauna with a mini cupola like the bigger one in the main room. I long to get back there now, even though it was just a few hours ago. Mmmmm.
  • Perfectly formed (if a little grotty in places) thermal bath. We go here quite regularly as it is ideal for a quick 2 hour session with a good steam room, O.K. sauna and very nice pools. Turkish style.
  • For me the most authentic bath we've done in Budapest. It's not the biggest one (first good news), nor the newest one (second good news) and one of the cheaper one (final good news!). The atmosphere is really great out there. Really want to go back !
  • Very traditional and local bath with a great sense of history. It is quite small and as others have mentioned the hot 40 degree pool is a bit small, only fitting around 5 people. Staff were helpful and massage was excellent and very well priced! Bring towels if you have them but you can hire towels and swim suits if you need. Definitely a great historical experience in Budapest! If you want a more 'luxury' bath the bigger newer ones would be better suited but if you're interested in history and authentic local baths this is the place!
  • Very authentic old thermal baths. Mostly locals. Student pricing lies at 1800 HUF. There's a strong sulfuric smell all throughout the bathing halls, but I guess that's due to the natural sulfur content. Don't miss the third sauna next to the 26°C pool.
