Fiume Graveyard Road, Budapest

4.4
Stroll through a park and learn about Hungarian history from the multitude of statues and mausoleums at Fiume Graveyard Road. This famed cemetery is one of the largest in Europe, dating back to the mid-19th century. It's the final resting place of many important Hungarians, including politicians, artists, philosophers, and scientists. The gravestones and monuments are true works of art, some covered in vines. • Interesting visit to the historic cemetery in Budapest. It begins with a stately funeral recently restored really impressive. Cemetery full of memorials of historical people of Hungary, affecting the sector of the insurgents of the 56 steps from the burial place of Communist Ministers. Beautiful tombs of the chess champions. The imposing pantheon of the labor movement and near the tomb of President János Kádár. Here is buried the poet Jozsef Attila, whose statue can be seen behind the Parliament along the Danube.

  • One of the finest cemeteries I have visited. The magnificent statues and monuments. A lot of sights worth seeing. I highly recommend.

  • According to the rough guide, it was part of the most beautiful places to visit: disappointment. A huge cemetery, Yes, but just too huge. Is like a mini city where the car is required to walk around. I did not find the charm that I expected, and please no comparison with the Père Lachaise!

  • A very interesting place. Recommend
  • A very nice graveyard in the town, where formerly all officials were buried. You can find tombs with historical names there.
  • A beautiful cemetery! Some parts are unfortunately very neglected, the toilet is also ugly, the neighbourhood is not the best... but still, it is worth to take a walk here for some of the statues and gravestones! Locals come here on the 1st of November, then it is the most beautiful with all those candles and flowers.
  • Quiet and silent, as expected for such a place like this. Went in autumn, for me the best period to go.
  • A beautiful, quiet, monumental memorial park. Ideal for a gentle walk far from the noises and the city
