Elisabeth Bridge, Budapest

#168 of 814 in Things to do in Budapest
Elisabeth Bridge crosses the Danube at its narrowest point in Budapest. Admire the bronze statue of Elizabeth of Bavaria, for whom the bridge is named, in the garden on the Buda side. This side also features Döbrentei Square with two monuments, as well as historical baths nearby. On the other side, visit the March 15 Square, where the oldest church in Pest is located. The bridge offers one of the quickest walking routes between Buda and Pest. Take one of the pedestrian sidewalks next to the road on the bridge and enjoy the views. • The bridge, dedicated to Queen Sissi, connects the Gellért Hill with Pest. It was built in the art nouveau style at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries and was the largest in Europe only one arch. It was destroyed, along with all the other bridges, by the Germans during World War II, but is the only one not to have been rebuilt as the original. Except for the pillars that are original, the bridge has taken since the beginning of the years 70 a modern appearance.

  • One of the main transport artery of Budapest joins the Elisabeth Bridge, which stretches across the Danube and linked the Buda and pest. The name Imperial bridge-the bridge is named after the Hungarian Queen Amalie Eugenie Elisabeth of Bavaria.

  • The Elizabeth Bridge is very sleek and slender than the other, the youngest of all but not less important historically. they often do not make time to see it because there is so much more to visit.

  • Wonderful to walk across for views of the Danube before climbing up Gellert Hill. It’s a short bridge and not crowded at all, and impressive to view from up close.
  • My third favorite bridge in Budapest, built with great financial support from Japan. Thank you. Completed in 1964. Shortest bridge over the Danube in Budapest with 290 meters.
  • Too much traffic and noise. Good views. Pass by quickly but take a couple of pics!
  • Most central bridge to get to the centre. Nearby riverbanks have nice hotels and restaurants.
  • My favorite bridge of the city. It gives a beautiful sight of Budapest at day and at night as well.
