  • A real place of worship, reflecting the Budapest religious Jewish population. It gives you a trus appreciation of what it is like to be an orthodox Jew in Budapest today.  more »

  • The synagogue was high on my list of sights I wanted to see in Budapest. The building is seriously impressive from the outside and even more impressive inside. It is the largest synagogue in Europe and has a memorial museum next to it as well as graves and a weeping willow tree installation and a small garden. Tours run every 45 minute and the guides are very knowledgeable with the history of the Hungarian Jews and details about the Holocaust. Entry to the synagogue is around 18€ which includes entry to the museum next door. Photo's are allowed to be taken inside and out as well as in the museum. There is a gift shop inside where souvenirs can be bought. A must see for almost anyone interested in architecture, Jewish history, their culture or just learn more about the Jews of Hungary.
  • The synagogue is impressive in terms of architecture, décor, and history. The English guide was very knowledgeable and gave a fascinating insight into Hungarian Jewish culture over the past few centuries. The entry price might be considered high (4000F) but it includes a guided tour, the Jewish museum and the attached cemetery and memorial garden. Please not men are to have their heads covered (a small paper cap is provided free of charge if you don't have your own hat) and your bags will be searched on entry.
  • Beautiful and definitely a must see while in Budapest. Entrance is a bit pricey. The synagogue itself is truly beautiful and impressive, the garden and holocaust memorial makes your heart sad but remembrance is important, highlight for Italians, at the end of the garden is a plaque on the floor honouring among others also Giorgio Perlasca. The only real downside is that within the synagogue grounds are a lot of tacky souvenir shops which are definitely out of place.
  • Interesting and somber Synagogue and memorial mass graves. The museum has some very interesting artefacts. You are also encouraged to take photographs.
  • A must see if you're in Budapest! The synagogue is gorgeous and has a beautiful (and sad) Holocaust memorial, the Tree of Life. Tours are available in many languages, and the guides provide an in depth history of the synagogue and Hungarian Jewish community.
