Citadel, Budapest

(4/5 based on 1,300+ reviews on the web)
Climb the hill to Citadel for a panoramic view of the city, the Danube, and its eight bridges. Built in 1851 by the Habspurgs to demonstrate their control over the Hungarians, this fortress was never used in battle. Climb the winding stairs to the top of the hill or take a bus, taxi, or car and park in the available spots. Work out when and for how long to visit Citadel and other Budapest attractions using our handy Budapest trip itinerary builder.

  • The most beautiful view in budapest, a little tiring climb but well worth the trip from above you can see all of budapest and the pictures are awesome

  • There are buses that take up there, but worth much more worthwhile to climb around the Park near the bridge across to Plague. The view of the place is beautiful and you can see also the residential part of Budapest, a very interesting view!

  • It's quite a hike to the top but it's totally worth it! You can see the Donau river and the skyline of Budapest! Beware of the guys that try to get your money with a game on the top. It's a scam.
