  • TL;DR: with spectacular views its worth the trek up to the "castle" but save your money and skip the visit inside as the original Buds castle and palace has long since been destroyed. This reconstructed "palace" has plastic windows for God's sake... We went with a walking tour up from the 0km point to the castle (there's also a funicular up for those who cannot physically make the walk). The views are spectacular! There's a whole castle district on the hill that's worth spending half a day exploring. Definitely one of the must-see spots for tourists travelling to Budapest. Our tourguide recommended that we skip the inside of castle (and i quote "it's fake, and poorly reconstructed as even the windows are plastic"). For more history on the castle, go to the Budapest national museum instead. But the scenery at the hill and the outside of the castle is worth the walk and your time.
  • A lovely walk to Buda castle all the way from Charles Bridge is one of the highlights of our trip to Budapest in August 2010. I really liked the Buda side and the area around the castle. In fact, we came twice here during our 3 day stay to walk around and enjoy the food on this part of the city. Beautiful sunset views, Pest side and a lovely cafe on top to rest up your feet.
  • Amazing place that is a perfect fit to the city panorama. Epic view to Pest opens from here and the area itself is incredible. Fountains, gardens, castle buildings around. It is magnificent!
  • Nice place, it has a wonderful iew of all the city. Totally worth the walk on foot because even when you are walking up to the palace you can see the city and its wonderful gardens.
  • Buda Castle is not just a single building. It's actually a district on the right side of the Danube. You can follow a good part of the entire history of Central Europe in museums and Palace buildings. You will find many excellent restaurants (definitely not on the cheap side), fantastic view of the city, souvenir shops (of course), nice museums. I'd say it's a not to be missed.
