Worth the visit but would recommend catching a lift up as there are a lot of stairs and on a hot day it would be tough on even the fittest! Really beautiful once you are up there though!  more »

This is another important stop on my BP top 10. The view of it lit up at night is absolutely stunning.  more »

Imperial building, on top of Buda. Houses two museums, very large complex and articulated. Wearisome

Nice place to walk around and enjoy the view. Go early in the day to avoid the tourist group. Take the tram or walk way up. Both are good. Take some water with you, since everything on the top cost at least three times more.

TL;DR: with spectacular views its worth the trek up to the "castle" but save your money and skip the visit inside as the original Buds castle and palace has long since been destroyed. This reconstructed "palace" has plastic windows for God's sake... We went with a walking tour up from the 0km point to the castle (there's also a funicular up for those who cannot physically make the walk). The views are spectacular! There's a whole castle district on the hill that's worth spending half a day exploring. Definitely one of the must-see spots for tourists travelling to Budapest. Our tourguide recommended that we skip the inside of castle (and i quote "it's fake, and poorly reconstructed as even the windows are plastic"). For more history on the castle, go to the Budapest national museum instead. But the scenery at the hill and the outside of the castle is worth the walk and your time.

A lovely walk to Buda castle all the way from Charles Bridge is one of the highlights of our trip to Budapest in August 2010. I really liked the Buda side and the area around the castle. In fact, we came twice here during our 3 day stay to walk around and enjoy the food on this part of the city. Beautiful sunset views, Pest side and a lovely cafe on top to rest up your feet.

A great spot to get a panoramic view over the Danube. Try walk up the stairs instead of taking the funicular so you enjoy the changing views with a gradual ascend

What a beautiful view. Get up there and take a look around the grounds. If your wallet allows it pop in a learn about the history of Buda Castle.
