Anonymus Szobor (Anonymous' Statue), Budapest
(4.2/5 based on 600+ reviews on the web)
Anonymus Szobor (Anonymous' Statue) pays tribute to the nameless storyteller and the first medieval Hungarian chronicler. Contemporary sculptor Miklós Ligeti portrayed this important historical figure as one who is hiding his face under a hood. Look for the inscription in Latin at the base of the monument, which translates to "the notary of the most glorious King Béla." Anonymus' chronicles provide an insight into medieval Hungary and the origin of the Hungarians. Locals believe that touching the figure's pen makes you a better writer. Make Anonymus Szobor (Anonymous' Statue) a centerpiece of your Budapest vacation itinerary, and find what else is worth visiting using our Budapest vacation trip planner.

  • Well worth a visit even if only for the photograph. It's said that if you touch the pen you'll never be stuck for words...glad my old Mother-in-Law was never here!
  • In the middle of the forest is is this mysterious statue, near even of the Castle, say that is a chronicler of the century XXII and author of the first books historical that speak of them ancient Hungarian based in legends. The voice popular says that there is that touch you the finger so you of to who it touches, inspiration for write, or that if you dedicás to something related with the writing, not there is that forget it.

  • With a halo of mystery, is within the area that houses the castle of Vajdahunyad. Actually the pen holding shines compared to the rest of the sculpture. I assumed that people played it, but was unaware of the reason. Of imposing measures, gives the place an extra sadness
