Cayos Cochinos, La Ceiba

(4.4/5 based on 280+ reviews on the web)
A group of tropical islands that sit in the clear waters of the Caribbean Sea, Cayos Cochinos provides a relaxed atmosphere with many different activities. Old boats and weathered palapas on the white sands give a rustic feel to the two main islands, which are surrounded by 13 smaller coral cays. Visitors here like to hike (especially toward the lighthouse), snorkel, go handline fishing, paddleboard, and more. Local eateries serve freshly caught fish. • I had never seen so pristine, you can make a boat tour of the different keys, several tour there are operators on the beach of zambocrick. For lunch a fried fish with rice and beans at cayo Chachahuate! Another great activity is snorkeling to see the reef as well as see and touch the pink boa.

  • We traveled with Tourist Options from La Ceiba to Cayos Cochinos in a boat of about 20 people. The sea helped enough, because it was as a raft of oil, and the ride was very nice, in about 40 min. The landscapes are fantastic. We did snorkeling on the big island and enjoy homemade food in one of the Islands inhabited by garifunas, a fantastic lobster and machuca; a kind of soup made with fish and coconut milk, prepared by girls own garifunas. Don't expect amenities, fortunately this site is untapped tourism and hopefully last much.

  • A day tour from The Lodge at Pico Bonito. Our guide Elmer was amazing. The drive to get on the boat was about an hour, and then another 30-40 minutes on a boat. Stopped at the Monumento natural marino...  more »
