Mayan Ball Court, Copan
(4.6/5 based on 85 reviews on the web)
While exploring the ancient Copán ruins, don’t miss the chance to see Mayan Ball Court, standing near the hieroglyphic stairway. Many mysteries still surround the nature of the game, which was played between teams using a rubber ball, resembling today's soccer in many ways. Some argue that the losing team was sacrificed, while others believe the game was simply part of a mysterious Mayan ritual. Nevertheless, the long, narrow playing alley, flanked by decorated walls and sculptures of macaws, amazes visitors with its precision and beauty.
