Hieroglyphic Stairway, Copan
(4.7/5 based on 200+ reviews on the web)
Discover Hieroglyphic Stairway, located within an archaeological site that once served as a political and religious center of the Mayan civilization. The stairway boasts the longest discovered Mayan text that dates back to approximately 755 CE, with some 2,000 glyphs etched in its stone. Archaeologists interpret the stairs to symbolize the rule of 16 kings from the Copan dynasty, the bottom step beginning with Yax K'uk Moh and the top one depicting the death of a ruler commonly known as 18 Rabbit. • Don't visit the Copan ruins without a qualified guide, unless you have a degree in archaeology or antiquities. There is so much to see, and so many details to appreciate and learn about. The stairway ...  more »
  • The hieroglyphic stairway inside the archaeological site of Copán is an age thing to see but the Honduran Government is half covered by conservation which prevents to see it in all its glory. The site as a whole is worth although access is not comfortable for the infrastructures existing in the region.
