Madurodam, The Hague

#1 of 15 in Theme Parks in South Holland Province
Take a condensed tour of Holland at Madurodam, an interactive miniature theme park focused on Dutch cultural traditions and historical sites. This impressive, well-visited park opened in 1952 and features small-scale replicas of the most famous landmarks, cities, and landscapes in the Netherlands. Look for Rijksmuseum, Binnenhof, Port of Rotterdam, tulip fields, windmills, and small recreations of traditional Dutch canal homes. Don't try to count the tiny lights--there are 50,000--in this shrunken city. You'll have better luck with the number of miniature planes stationed at the Amsterdam Airport Schiphol replica. Take a look at our The Hague trip planning website to schedule your visit to Madurodam and learn about what else to see and do during your holiday.

  • I used to be a kid, but now that I'm a little older again. Nice park to walk around and see the special buildings of the Netherlands. However, we missed some things from the Netherlands. It's bad time easy to do in an afternoon. Parking is close by.

  • Faithful copies of the most important buildings of the region, but of the whole country, in a stable proportion. Excellent fidelity to the performance of each miniature, and attention to detail. Inside the park nothing is cheap.

  • Waw!!!!! So impressive. My kid loved it. Its amazing to see all the details. You feel like Gulliver in a small world. And my 1 year old felt like a giant. She was so happy here. We recommend this place to all our friends. It's a Must see place. Food was also very tasty at the restaurant.
  • It was an educative place for kids to learn about The Netherlands. Go in the morning to avoid crowds. Very easy to reach by public transport (tram 9 from Den Haag CS or HS). I wish Madurodam has more buildings to represent some famous places in the world as well, but alas.....
  • This is the sort of place that catches the kids imaginations, the models are very detailed and did replicate some of the real places we had visited very well. There are interactive things for the kids to do as you go around including having model trucks deliver you a pair of clogs or a sweet plus a little education at finding how the windmills and locks etc work. The restaurant and cafe served good food, but as with the rest of the park they get busy. If you do everything on offer and take plenty of pictures etc you can spend most of a day here quite easily, it was also a very barefoot friendly place. the only small gripe I had was having to pay extra to park at the attraction.
  • Lovely park to see all the relevant monuments and important buildings of the Netherlands in small size (1 to 25 scale). I particularly loved the videos that can be seen either in English or in Spanish and, in concrete, the introduction/motivation of Madurodam. Although the price is definitely high (if you are a group of 3 or 4 people you can save some money if you buy a family ticket), it is worth it!
  • Have been here with my 3yo son, who was frankly a bit too young to really like it. The miniature buildings were nice for him, but the fact that all of these were look-a-likes didn't (naturally) catch on yet. Interaction with the water attractions was nice, but too crowded and a 3yo needs a few more years to really enjoy this. For myself, E20 entree per adult is a steep price and barely worth the money. And then to ask more money for pushing each button to make a bus go back and forth?! Give me a break! The way I recall it, Madurodam used to be very interactive with many cars, boats, and planes moving around. Some of them still do, but not the many I hoped for. Most of the site is simply static. Also a bare minimum of explanation with the buildings. Enough for the average Dutchman, but tourists might need more info than only the name of each building. Sure, I might have idealized the memory of the place from my own childhood. However it might also very well be that this iconic venture is driving on success from a past era.
