  • We were hoping to spend some time in the church. The tourist information office told us is closed at 5 but they kicked us out at 4. The church is pretty spare inside but has some interesting features.  more »
  • It is impossible to get into this church when the organ is playing, and so I would like to listen. The church is striking in size, very huge for such a small town. The church seems to be divided into sectors. If you look at the altar, the right side (1/4 part) closer to the entrance is occupied by shops, where they sell some goods, but I did not look closely, like books, souvenirs, knitted things. The decoration of the church is stained glass and organ.

  • The Great or Saint Nicholas Church is, rather unusual, on the outskirts of the town. The original cross church from the 15th century was later enlarged with side aisles and thus arose the Hallenkerk, as we can see it now. Spacious interior (it seems to be the largest hall church in the Netherlands). The dozens of stained glass windows, which date from the Great Fire in the early 17th century and some of which have been donated by other Dutch cities, are special. The inscriptions and family weapons on the tombstones in the church are an indication that Edam was once very prosperous. Also the tombstones of craftsmen, often provided with their master sign (by way of weapon) are interesting. After the visit, take a walk around the church.. The exterior is beautiful by Zn simpness. Church is definitely worth a visit.

  • Amazingly beautiful church. With this impressive size I would rather call it cathedral. So many details ... I must go back.
  • Free to enter and a tour only costs 2 euros, which goes all the way to the top of the bell tower. This huge 600-year-old church has impressive woodwork and a lot of detail, with huge stained glass windows and nearly-ancient family graves below your feet. Be sure to check out when they are open before visiting! Free parking up to 4 hours nearby. Good food downtown.
  • I love their windows, because they imagine all symbols of the nederlands region. Great
  • Really beautiful church. It's not restored like new, which is something I really liked about it. It feels huge for Edam and the stained glass was well-explained. We were not able to go into the tower, which was disappointing.
  • Beautiful church with 3 halls and Schiterende stained glass windows beautiful monument
