Head to Marche de Fer for an authentic Haiti flee market experience. The market continues to sell similar food and clothing as it did 150 years ago, keeping its authentic feel. It teems with vendors who will try to grab your attention and make a sale with you. Find fruits, vegetables, t-shirts, and shoes among other everyday goods. Bring a strong bargaining game as bartering is required to get a good deal. A local guide may be useful to steer you towards the best vendors. • Originally, the building was to be a bus station, today it is a covered market. Divided into two parts: a food market and a market of memory. The memories are not very many it is an opportunity not to be missed. The prices are very widely affordable and the sellers are not at all aggressive as might be expected (on the contrary). For those who are never went through this kind of kind of market, it is the place to do not miss to Port au Prince.

  • Hippolyte is spectacular and fascinating market. A very lively place. There are objects of Haitian art like spices, such as clothes, finally we have a choice. Me, I bought a beautiful natural drumstick without varnish inside. This market is to see.

Where to stay in Port-au-Prince

Port-au-Prince offers a plethora of accommodations, though surprisingly few by the water. The most popular area to stay is in the southern neighborhood of Petion-Ville, where you can choose from a range of hotels, many with swimming pools and complimentary breakfast. The suburb of Turgeau--also in the south but closer to the coast--offers a similar selection of options. If you stay a bit farther north, you'll have easy access to the city's airport.
