Flea Market Shopping
Get a taste of everyday life in Georgetown at Stabroek Market, one of the busiest places in the city. Locals come here every day, either selling items to make a living or buying items for their household. Built in 1808, the market ranks among the city's oldest buildings still in use. The predominantly red and white structure features a clock tower reminiscent of the Victorian British style of architecture. At this expansive market (one of the country's largest) you can shop for fresh fruits and vegetables, fish and meats, clothing, and confectionary items. • It's beautiful
  • NASTY and smell with no smile. This is a shanty town.
  • Everything from produce to meat and fish to fashion to jewelry. One stop shopping at it's best in Georgetown.
  • I admired the place ,Sion i'll back again.
  • One of the must sees in Georgetown, this busy market will keep you occupied for a while. You'll find a bit of everything here, and plenty of cheap restaurants around the area as well. Be careful in this area by night, other than that it's a very interesting place to visit, to get to know the people and the produce of Guyana more.

Where to stay in Georgetown

Georgetown boasts by far the most eclectic choice of accommodations in the country. The eastern bank of the Demerara River offers many of the most exclusive options, with long-established resort-style hotels ensuring a range of upscale facilities and services. Less-expensive hotels can be found on the city's side streets, along with family-run guesthouses and the odd hostel. Consider staying away from the water to keep costs down, or look for a rental property if you plan a longer stay.
