Government Building Architectural Building
Marvel at an outstanding example of Renaissance architecture by visiting Parliament Bldg, completed in 1834. Featuring a foundation made of greenheart wood, this is one of two buildings in Georgetown featuring a dome. Go to the parliamentary chamber, located in the east wing of the building, to observe mahogany-covered walls and greenheart floors, an elaborately carved speaker's chair, and paintings of Guyana's first president. Where to stay in Georgetown

Georgetown boasts by far the most eclectic choice of accommodations in the country. The eastern bank of the Demerara River offers many of the most exclusive options, with long-established resort-style hotels ensuring a range of upscale facilities and services. Less-expensive hotels can be found on the city's side streets, along with family-run guesthouses and the odd hostel. Consider staying away from the water to keep costs down, or look for a rental property if you plan a longer stay.

  • One of the few stone or brick public buildings in Georgetown and for a change it is in good repair. Quite a pleasant building and you can enter but I didn't have time and just walked the grounds.  more »
  • Gorgeous building! The guards are very amenable to taking pics and video. The staff was very helpful and knowledgeable.  more »
  • This seems to be the only well maintained governmment building in the city...enjoy this while you are here!  more »
