  • Nice site a bit raw to visit with Ceibal before Tikal (take a night at Chiminos Jungle Lodge). Not to miss  more »
  • Arrival necessarily by boat from Sayaxché out. It is an experience. First, it is on a tributary of the Río Pasión, which then flows into a Lake, at the opposite end up on a hill is the fortress-like Mayan settlement of Aguateca. The ascent is very tedious. Is partly because that the wooden stairs in partially are extremely slippery when it rains, and some rotten with broken railings dilapidated condition. Good shoes! halfway up one side can the tour start through a Gorge that runs through the plateau. "Mirador" from affords a spectacular view of the seascape below. Above are the ruins, which are not as spectacular as in the major centres, however, Aguateca is a place you should have seen.
