  • We were looking at doing this as preparation for another volcano hike but we will take a pass. Unfortunate for the bandit situation. Thanks everyone for their input.  more »

  • Excellent hike, 3 hours of fairly intensive climbing and unfortunately the views at the top were obscured by a cloud, but won’t hold it against them
  • Hike done on 01/02/2020. Started at 5AM, we spoke with a local guide who was waiting for the sunrise at half of the ascent (at the columpio) who told us that 10 tourists were robbed on 12/30/2019 at the summit. Nothing happened to us (at 7AM at the top with a good pace) but the story has been confirmed later and it is still considered dangerous to climb solo or even with guide. The view is good from the swing (1H+ hikking) but better at the top. Hopefully it will be safer soon to enjoy this amazing point of view.
  • We did the hike today with a guide called Elias. We doubted the days before if we should do it because of all the scary stories about the bandits up there. But with the guide we felt totally secure the whole time. There were also locals at the peak who prospected for bandits and who were in contact with the company (at least that's what our guide told us). So if you re not too scared and not to unathletic you should really do this hike. We really enjoyed the viewpoints on our way up and down even we didn't have a good view from the peak. At the top it was cloudy and windy, so take something warm with you and enjoy the hike! :)
  • Awsome view from the top! People might scare you off that you could get robbed, but at least nothing happened to me. Just in case: don't take any valuable things with you. Just some cash and water. If you go for the middle platform, you will have to pay 100 q entrance fee + 100 q for a guide. If you decide to go for the top, it is only the entrance fee and you have to sign a waiver that you walk by yourself. Don't worry about losing the way - it is super easy! Watch out for the swing shortly after the middle platform!
  • If you go to the top you will get robbed. Just take a Guide to the second stage with the swing and leave all important stuff in the hotel. Two guys infront of us got robbed and were running down because they got assaulted by 6 guys with long machets even though they had a guide with a Pitbull (useless).
