Laguna Chicabal, Quetzaltenango
(4.7/5 based on 100+ reviews on the web)
Hike through the high-altitude volcanic region to Laguna Chicabal. After a relatively short trek through the cloud forest hills, you'll come a lagoon (sacred to the local indigenous cultures), which lies in the crater of the now-extinct Chicabal volcano. Bring study footwear and a camera, and also consider leaving early: clouds tend to form over the lake, giving it an eerie look, but diminishing the sweeping views from the top of the crater. • We went with friends and experience is beautiful. We madrugamos to see the sunrise at the top and walk around the Lake. Do it in the morning was very useful because the climate was cool and clear. The visitor center is very nice, could improve a bit the baths of private rooms, but is generally comfortable, affordable prices and they can coordinate food for food three times. If you need to contact the visitors center, call don Juan Garcia (502) 3025-6142

  • There is a reason this lake is considered sacred by the Mayan people. After a challenging hike up to the site (located inside an inactive volcano), you will find it hard to regain your breath just by ...  more »
  • It is my third time going to the laguna chicabal, the place is very nice, to be a couple of hours, not more than that. If you think camping, it is preferable to arrive in the afternoon for only hope that you dark and the next day watch the sunrise from the mirador, which is very nice. The bus tours, left him one in the village San Martín Chile green, walking from there is very demanding. You can take a shuttle service, which is in pick up old, but very powerful, which can easily lead to about 10 people up to the Summit if desired. If it takes a four-wheel truck, can reach the visitor centre Park and from there to the Summit are 45 minutes walk, with a difficulty, I would say medium to low. At the visitor center, has place for camping and clean bathrooms, also has a store where I can find drinks and some snacks.
