Cerro El Baúl, also known as El Baúl, is a forested lava dome overlooking the valley of Quetzaltenango. It is located about 3 km north of the Almolonga volcano, at the south-eastern edge of the city of Quetzaltenango in Guatemala and is one of the city's last remaining green areas.Cerro El Baúl covers an area of 2.40 km² and was declared a national park in 1955. The park is under serious threat due to illicit extraction of trees and advancing urbanization crossing the park borders.

  • Its worth the time to hike up to Cerro El Baul and take in the beautiful view of the city. If you have time, meander over to the park and grab a cardboard or plastic sheet and slide down the concrete ...  more »
  • After a short easy hike starting from the Parque Central (1 h 30) there is a great view of the city, there is a park where there is a statue of Maya, there is a large water slide where it is fun! Laughing out loud. Better plan to drink and eat! At the top... There was nothing to eat.

  • Nice little hike in the city. If you have an afternoon to spend it´s worth it. We went on top but then there was some rain, so the view was clouded and the park empty. Still, the walk up was worth it ...  more »
