The third-largest ruins in Guatemala, Yaxha, takes its visitors back to the classical period in the Americas via an ancient Mayan city. Walk the ruins to view more than 500 structures of Mayan origin. The jungle has permeated the city, leading animals to share the area with tourists--be prepared to encounter monkeys and tropical birds. As you explore, you'll observe over 40 Mayan stelae, a kind of sculpture and monument, spread throughout the city. After working up an appetite, head to the restaurant at the entrance of the park. After visiting Tikal recommended we go to the Yaxhá. First by the asphalt road and then 13 km of gravel not very good state, but it was worth it to go. Nor surprised widely the beauty of these ruins, since in a lot more with many ruins already weeded, between roads, jungle, lots of vegetation and small easy to reach the different buildings where you can upload and have spectacular views. There aren't many people so it is a very quiet place and the guards continually provide information if they request it. We do not hire Guide to dedicate her time freely to each place. Recommended to bring insect repellent and water. I highly recommend this place if you are to the area of Peten.

We saw Yaxha as part of an overnight tour to Tikal from Belize. While we enjoyed it and learned a great deal, having to stay overnight in Tikal was a bit rough for us (no A/C) so I'm not sure we'd do ...  more »

Yaxha is one of those places that surprises you. It is 1 hour and half approx flower with a road in very good condition, then a stretch of 11 km on dirt road, at the place you can camp and facilities are very well maintained as well as the Park. Yaxhá has the advantage that you can visit him at noon without exaggerated heat, since it is full of trees. The most impressive room is the view from the temple 216 since you can see the Peten jungle and Yaxhá lagoon and there are many tours to watch the sunset from here is amazing. If I remember well the entry for national Q 40.00 is and whether or not remember to bring water (at the entrance to also sell), Cap and repellent and always respect the place and do not leave garbage. If Peten are adding it to their places of visit, will love.
