Yaxha, Peten

(4.9/5 based on 260+ reviews on the web)
The third-largest ruins in Guatemala, Yaxha, takes its visitors back to the classical period in the Americas via an ancient Mayan city. Walk the ruins to view more than 500 structures of Mayan origin. The jungle has permeated the city, leading animals to share the area with tourists--be prepared to encounter monkeys and tropical birds. As you explore, you'll observe over 40 Mayan stelae, a kind of sculpture and monument, spread throughout the city. After working up an appetite, head to the restaurant at the entrance of the park. Plan to visit Yaxha and other customer-reviewed, writer-recommended Peten attractions using our Peten trip itinerary maker.

  • Go early and you pretty much have the site to yourself. There are some well preserved structures and you can climb a lot of them. There are a few good looks outs over the site and the lake. Beautiful ...  more »
  • In my opinion the most beautiful site of guatemala, much quieter than Tikal, almost nobody, splendid pyramids in a jungle in nature setting. Plenty of birds (toucans) of coatis, monkeys spider... And more guards are very available to you explain the scene. Really, really to do! Not very far from here the small site of Topoxte Island, we're lancha, very nice

  • Excellent experience, very cultural, impressive travel and the ability to upload to the temples, important to bring plenty of water and comfortable clothes.
