Cave
Delve deep into the darkness of Lanquin Caves, a vast underground network of caves, some of which have still yet to be explored. Used for hundreds of years as a site for ceremonial rituals by the Maya people, large, naturally formed stone altars and magnificent dripping stalactites feel make you feel as if you’re in a cathedral. Indeed, it's hardly surprising that many refer to this place as the “Heart of Heaven.” Head deeper into the pitch black, winding caverns and you'll begin to hear the inhabitants of the caves--bats--nestled in the glittering rock formations overhead. Guides are available to take you through the known paths of the caves and provide candles, or you can go it alone. If you do go solo, be sure to take a source of light and don’t take flash photography of the bats. Put Lanquin Caves on your schedule, and learn what else deserves a visit by using our Lanquin travel itinerary planner.
