Palacio Nacional, Guatemala City

#1 of 14 in Museums in Guatemala City
Take in the history and architecture at Guatemala City's crowning landmark, Palacio Nacional. The dictatorial government of Jose Ubico built this former presidential palace in the early 1940s, designed in a mix of styles ranging from Spanish Renaissance to Neoclassical. Over the decades it has seen earthquakes and government coups; today it is open for public viewing as a museum. Take a guided tour of the building to learn about its rich history and observe the ornate decor, paintings, and murals that grace the interior. Palacio Nacional is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our online itinerary creator, Guatemala City Edition.

  • The National Palace same thing happens with the cathedrals, it is worthwhile to visit them, either outside or inside, since it is home to history, art and sometimes traditions of the place, the capital guatemala National Palace, is impressive, its architecture is detailed in every corner different to all that he.conocido, and none is equal, imposes in its socket, and is an emblem of Guatemalans is political wedge around the country.

  • It is a beautiful building, obligatory stop inside the historic center. In the square in front it is common to find religious or cultural activities.

  • This Palace used to house all Ministries early on, but today it's only home to the Ministry of Culture and Sports. It was built built a dictator and it shows in the lavish decor, and even the fact that all doors have his fingerprint on the door handle (see picture). It's truly worth getting a guided tour, so you can learn about the history of the place and some Guatemalan history. One of the central pieces of the palace is the sculpture that commemorates the signing of the peace treaty with the guerrilla, flanked by a permanent flame.
  • the most beautiful place in the world. you can sense the history. the legacy makes me feel proud of my heritage.
  • Historical, very rich in history and culture. Tours are generally in Spanish. Our tour guide Carlos plays the piano at the end of the tour. Close to Avenida 6 where it's safe to walk around. Lots of police.
  • Fabulous palace should visit and take the tour if you're in downtown Guatemala
  • If you can, you should go to see. When we participated in the tour, the guide taught me the origin of the buildings and the history so nicely. All the facilities are so interesting and beautiful. I hadn't expected that before I visited.
