Natural History Museum
Unearth one of the world's biggest collections of Maya art with a visit to Museo Popol Vuh. Home to an extensive collection of pre-Colombian and colonial art and artifacts from the Maya people, the museum houses a particularly impressive exhibit of funerary ceramic art, as well as some of the best-preserved Maya vases and bowls in existence. Through the museum’s many displays, you'll uncover pieces dating as far back as the Paleoindian era of 9,000 BC, right up to the baroque and renaissance sculptures of the 19th century. You can park nearby at the University Francisco Marroquín campus. • A great place to see at a glance a collection of Mayan textiles
  • Great artifacts.
  • The collection of Mayan artifacts is fantastic. Ranging with artifacts from the PreClassical, Classical and PostClassical periods one gets a fantastic overview of the artistic, technological and commercial advance of the Mayan Civilization. The collection is small so I strongly recommend to ask a day earlier for a reservation of a guided tour (we paid Q.250.00 for the group tour and it lasted for 1.5 hours). The tour guide was very well educated on the topics and provided great Insights on the treasures of their collection. A must go if you visit Guatemala City!
