La Aurora Zoo, Guatemala City

4.6
#1 of 61 in Outdoors in Guatemala
Come and see the animals at La Aurora Zoo, a large zoological park. Established in 1924 as part of a major regeneration project, the zoo has become a popular place to escape the city rush. Head to the African section to see zebras, lions, and buffalos, and spot three species of Asian monkeys, with howlers shouting at the overhead traffic from the nearby airport. Take a stroll through the landscaped gardens, relaxing under the shade of the trees, and head to the onsite restaurants when you're feeling in need of a meal. • I liked much, tidy, clean. Good attention. In some time one can have the experience of feeding the giraffe something which I think is spectacular. Very well themed cages. I consider it a must stop, but once is enough to be satisfied. I do not think back but me.incomodaria do it. 3 hours maximum for a quiet tour a4

  • The place is very nice, there are many animals and they are not regarded badly treated, the only thing is that there are some who are very lonely and sad, I think that something can be done to make your life a little better.

  • La Aurora Zoo, I visited it a couple of times and both times I left satisfied. Beautiful gardens, good environments for animals, where even the most dangerous are not in fearsome cages but in an open environment. It has beautiful green areas. To visit family, friends or partner, or to have a relaxation time alone in a natural environment.

  • Pretty cool, chill place. Great environment, very clean. In Guatemala make sure to bring your own toilet paper everywhere you go. Overall really fun small zoo.
  • Very nice place, beautiful walking routes, lots of restaurants and cute animals. Only down side is that the signs directing us to those restaurants and toilets are not clear and not easy to follow.
  • Not so big but it's a great place to spend afternoon with family. You can feed some of animals. The zoo has o 5 areas when you can find species which live in different continents. It's a safe place.
  • I love la aurora zoo... It has a surprisingly large amount of animals, and you can really get up close. As we went on a private tour we fed the giraffes from our hand and got lemurs joint on us as we fed them fruit. Founded in 1924, it has a lot of history and beautiful architecture. Five stars!
  • It's a great place to take the children if you are visiting Guatemala, friendly staff and very clean place.

Where to stay in Guatemala City

For easy access to the historical highlights of Guatemala City, many travelers choose to stay in the old, central district of Zona 1. While plenty of budget hostels and hotels in this area offer decent rooms, some visitors refrain from this part of the city due to its unfortunate reputation for theft and gun crime, especially at night. You'll find safer areas farther south--in Zona 9 and 10--where you can choose from a much wider selection of high-end hotels, while also enjoying proximity to the airport, the metro, and Guatemala City's best nightlife.
