  • The original excavations in the 20s and 30s were left for later attention. Major excavations were a part of the 1980s Guatemala expedition. The E group is famous and that is south of the old airstrip ...  more »
  • Interesting figureheads in the pyramids. You can breathe the harmony of proportions in the whole. It is even rehabilitate, as in most of the archaeological complex, but there are enough for one day. In 2016, when I visited they were rehabilitating the figureheads of two of the pyramids, and are really impressive. Maybe the pyramids (at least what is unearthed) do not have the size of other Maya cities, but the layout of the buildings, nature, and the fact that almost no people give it a special charm. For a tourist who just visit an archaeological site would not recommend it, since they are Tikal and Yaxha which can give you a better idea of the spectacular nature of this civilization, but for people who can take 4 days to explore the Mayan world Guatemalan, or for those who live in Guatemala, it is a good choice.

  • I went to visit the ruins from flowers in the morning, it is a very beautiful experience, exciting. What if again I would be sleeping in the Park, there are a couple of options of hotels. Sleeping there one can go to visit the ruins very early in the morning to see the Sun being born from the pyramids.
