The Plaza Central Park, Antigua

4.5
Rest on a bench in The Plaza Central Park and observe the bustling atmosphere of Guatemala's former capital. Surrounded by colonial-era buildings, dominated by the grandiose San Jose Cathedral, the tree-shaded square is a great place to stroll, take a break from sightseeing, and people watch. Admire the central fountain known for its mermaid sculptures, get some souvenirs or snacks, and see the locals going about their daily life. • The heart of Antigua. This is where you see life here. Such a wonderful place to be.
  • We stayed over a Saturday night in Antigua and the central square was hopping. Street performers, musicians and crafters peddling their wares. Something for everyone.
  • Since I can't leave a review for Antigua as a city, I will review the city park instead. Nice. So, funny, everyone in Antigua says Guatemala city is dangerous and to avoid it. But everyone in Guatemala City says Antigua is more dangerous. I went through every part of GC on bike or foot and didn't have any problem. While I have nothing against Antigua, young ladies, it is known the locals will have an afterparty since bars close at 1am and many young women get drugged and raped at these locals parties, 86 reported last year which means maybe 1000 actually happened. All good if your up for a party and letting lose. Just be smart like anywhere else. I actually had an amazing time in GC but just an OK time in Antigua. Definitely recommend the volcano hike there, the evening one is cool because you can see and hear the lava spurting out. Enjoy it all!!
  • Pleasant enough park, there's a fountain and lots of benches and there's always lots.of people around. Feels safe. Lots of people selling food, crafts etc.
  • It's nice enough. It's got a fountain in the middle and plenty of benches to relax and people watch. Nice cathedral but we never seen it open
