Casa Santo Domingo, Antigua

Categories: Specialty Museums, Museums
Inspirock Rating:
4.6/5 based on 950+ reviews on the web
See a diverse collection of Central American art and artifacts in an atmospheric setting at Casa Santo Domingo--a museum and a five-star hotel built on the grounds of a 16th-century convent destroyed in an earthquake. Walk around the green courtyard inhabited by flamboyant parrots and see the historic ruins of a church and a crypt. Different museums on site cover everything from historical pharmaceuticals to contemporary art, with a significant collection of Central American art from several periods. The hotel's design incorporates the remains and Baroque features of the old convent. You don't have to be a hotel guest to dine in the picturesque restaurant--though do prepare for rather steep prices.
