La Soufriere Volcano, Parc National
(4.6/5 based on 440+ reviews on the web)
Visit the highest point on the island, the summit of La Soufriere Volcano, an active volcano. Challenge yourself and hike to the summit, where you'll be rewarded with breathtaking ocean and island views from a height of 1,234 m (4,049 ft). During the approximate 2-hour hike, you'll pass through rainforest, montane thicket, and cloud forest before you reach the ash-strewn crater with an active lava dome at its center. From here, choose to walk around the active dome via a steep rope-assisted path (which takes about 2 hours) further across the island to the village of Richmond, or hike back down. For travelers who use our world travel planner, Parc National holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the La Soufriere Volcano and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

  • The soufriere and his famous yellow bathroom (become black because the city doesn't strip the sulfur present on the walls of the bathroom) are a must. Remember to get there no later than 8: 00 because after the weather a little. We had the chance to do under the Sun but once at the top of the Summit, it was starting to cover. The climb is sporty enough, but taking the time everyone can get there. We have seen couples with children, persons of a certain age the volcano. Once at the top, there are fumes to suffer making the somewhat unpleasant to breathe air. It takes 1 h 30 - 2 hours to climb to the top but it's worth the visit. The view is breathtaking. Remember to take your swimsuit to enjoy the yellow bathroom at the back of the soufriere. It feels really good to bask in a warm high

  • Started the ascent at 8 in the morning, car little sister parking, an idqeale temperature. The first part is physical but fast. You will come to some concreted with a great view of the Souffriere. You then start a third part less difficult (from my point of view) than the first, but more steep and rocky. Then you get to the last part, the more steep and physical. But at the top is a great show that is offered to us! The descent to summer lasts, more strength in the legs and heat, it takes down slowly and think, or else put his foot which is tiring. But on arrival a bath in lukewarm water is actually the largest! 1 l water per person was enough, we had a wind which was helpful for the arrival at the top, when it transpired well and the wind is blowing. I suffered but I'm glad it came, it is not insurmountable. Good climb to you!
