La Soufriere Volcano, Parc National
(4.6/5 based on 460+ reviews on the web)
Visit the highest point on the island, the summit of La Soufriere Volcano, an active volcano. Challenge yourself and hike to the summit, where you'll be rewarded with breathtaking ocean and island views from a height of 1,234 m (4,049 ft). During the approximate 2-hour hike, you'll pass through rainforest, montane thicket, and cloud forest before you reach the ash-strewn crater with an active lava dome at its center. From here, choose to walk around the active dome via a steep rope-assisted path (which takes about 2 hours) further across the island to the village of Richmond, or hike back down. For travelers who use our world travel planner, Parc National holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the La Soufriere Volcano and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

  • In Guadeloupe, the rise of the Soufrière... You have to Park yellow bathing, in recent years, which lengthens the course quite significantly (+ 25 / 30 minutes to rise). It is not too serious if not only the yellow bathroom, it is almost impossible to Park spend 10 hours, and also almost impossible to cross, so imagine with the mini bus hotels... Attention did Park you under pain of your locked car. Ascension begins with a crossing of the quite nice jungle, at the expense, we forget the many markets. Then we get out of this vegetation and we get a the former parking (and there balls as you walk for 30 minutes already!) Let's get discovered, with beautiful views whether beautiful, and view the haze if it's foggy... We went through all climates: torrential rain, mist, rain and very hot... Cold and wind at the top. Attention! It's physical. Almost dangerous with wet, slippery rocks, and attendance which does not always facilitate the passages. Provide water, rain shoes has throw, Kway, sweater. I recommend for seniors, families with children, some passages toward the end look has a via ferrata. All this to ultimately have a nearly identical to the start view: a cloud.

  • We launched to the rise of the Soufrière around 7:30 for a Summit finish around 9:15, but unfortunately there are a lot of clouds and wind! But we it's superbly busted up!

  • Hike to prepare seriously: water, food, kway, good shoes and especially not to go alone or with children not accustomed to large hikes. The journey is long, sometimes difficult end-of-track, and request a good physical condition, especially as the weather can change from one minute to another. But worth the effort: landscapes, vegetation, fumaroles. However, the mountain is exceptionally clear and we can be disappointed at the top. Do not forget to leave early, not - what would be for a spot in the parking lot. 4 hours round trip without forcing.
