Fort Frederick, St. George's

Historic Site · Hidden Gem · Tourist Spot
Reward yourself with spectacular panoramic views from a landmark steeped in history at Fort Frederick, a pleasant addition to any St George itinerary. Built in 1779 by French invaders, who won the island by catching the British unprepared with an inland (instead of naval) attack. The fortification became known as “the backward facing fort,” due to its cannon’s position facing toward the island in an attempt to prevent future copycat attacks. As you wander around this crumbling military relic, you will be greeted at every turn with striking views of the coastline and the glittering horizon of the Caribbean Sea. • The most interesting thing about visiting the fort was the backward facing. The historical lesson behind the fort as well as the a scenic view of the inner parts of island. The view from the front parts of the fort was really the icing on the cake for me though. You get an amazing view of the island's capital, St. Georges. Fort Fredrick is one of the best spots for a "sunset & chill" kinda vibe. When you visit do enjoy. ✨ 🌴 🌞
  • This place has plenty of rich history the I didn't know about. Thanks to my guide Tyrone, he is very knowledgeable of the history aspects pertaining to Grenada. Great view of the island.

  • Talk about preservation of history, this fort unveils its historical prowess by bringing you the stories of war and victory and biographies of people who were instrumental in paving the way in past times for the wonderful Grenada that you see now. Dont miss this on your trip to Grenada
  • Best place on the island to watch the sunset, and all the boats coming and going.
