Marathonisi (Turtle Island), Zakynthos

#1 of 7 in Nature in Zakynthos
Must see · Island · Nature / Park
An island uninhabited except for the sea turtles, Marathonisi (Turtle Island) is part of the National Marine Park of Zakynthos, which strives to protect sea turtles and their habitats. You'll discover two beaches on the island--one sandy and one rocky. Book a boat tour to visit the island, or rent a motorboat to reach the island on your own. Even if the turtles aren't there when you visit, look for their tracks in the sand. If you stop at the sea caves on the other side of the island, you can snorkel and search for more sea turtles. Bring your own snacks if you wish; the island has no facilities. Our Limni Keri route website makes visiting Marathonisi (Turtle Island) and other Limni Keri attractions simple, and helps you make a travel plan personal to you.

  • Tourist attraction!! This in my mind should be band and the turtles given there own sanctuary to breed and swim in piece.
  • I do not recommend this island. looks completely different than in photo.
  • Ok beach nothing special
  • Green water in the sand beach side, light blue water in the cave side. It's funny and weird that you can clearly see that it really looks like a giant turtle careta careta from both sides, something like mothership..
  • Great beach, cheap to get here and fun to spend the day at. There's no shade, so own umbrellas are recommended. We've snorkeled to a smaller island close by and back, which was a great mini adventure. You can also walk to the rocky side of the island, shoeless if you're up for an uncomfortable self foot massage :)
