4.4/5 based on 2,200+ reviews on the web
Thessaloniki's most recognizable landmark, White Tower of Thessaloniki is as enigmatic as it is photogenic. The precise date of the tower's construction remains disputed, though many historians now believe the Ottomans erected this structure shortly after the army of Sultan Murad II captured the city in 1530. Possibly designed by architect Mimar Sinan (who made his name building similar structures in other Ottoman territories), the tower probably replaced a pre-existing Byzantine building. Photographed from every angle, the image of the cylindrical tower has found its way on every type of souvenir, becoming the quintessential symbol of the city. Learn about the colorful history of this part of Greece by visiting the museum housed inside. White Tower of Thessaloniki is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our custom trip planner, Thessaloniki Edition.

  • The ride to the tower is beautiful and the view from the top is beautiful. Although the ticket is pretty expensive is worth the visit.

  • לא מבינה מה המהומה.. מגדל לא גדול במיוחד..לא מרשים.. סתם..אתר תיירות. יש ליד את הטיילת של הים והפסל של אלכסנדר מוקדון שנראה מרשים על הרקע של הים.
  • the tower is the symbol of Thessaloniki and must be visited as it offers 360 degree views of the city. the best time is at sunset.

  • Nice area, I'm sure it would have been better without crowds of riot police everywhere all day. Oh and the riot at night.
  • Not good. There aren't any indications in English and all the comments in the photos of museum are only in Greek... The views in the top are amazing.
  • Smells history, and has a great see view. Begining point of the tour also.
  • The white tower is one of Thessaloniki's landmarks. It used to be a prison during the Ottoman rule. Now it is a museum.
  • A beautiful landmark and probably the most known building / place in Thessaloniki
