  • Lived next to the Basilica at visited twice. Better come early in the morning, when there is no sightseeing buses. Quietly, the goes service people a bit. Beautiful antique frescoes on the walls and dome, marble columns are impressive in size, on the floor carpets, all sedately.

  • Interesting, but - as so often in Thessaloniki - heavily restored... Whilst I am aware of the importance of the importance of the local saints, for me the real find was the crypt...
  • Go there and take the blessings of agios Dimitrios, the great Saint from Thessaloniki !!!
  • This impressive, Orthodox Christian church is dedicated to St. Demetrius, the patron saint of Thessaloniki.
  • Even if you're not the religious type, this is a very interesting place both for its architecture and its history. Be sure to check out the visiting hours and prepare to spend some time inside. It's worth it.
  • Nice holy place, free admission, the underground crypt was closed though
