  • The extraordinary Byzantine Church architecture is great and the surrounding area is an oasis in the city centre-definitely worth visiting.

  • If you're visiting the oldest monuments of the city (the roundabout and the arc and Palace of Galerius), this church you catches close to this area so it is not a bad idea to come to pay him a visit. The environment is also very nice, since it is not like others in the street, but it is surrounded by a small park.

  • The temple dates back to the late 13th-early 14th century and according to one version is identical with the monastery of the Virgin Mary dating back, also known as the monastery of Sun Isaac from the name of its founder, who named James served as Archbishop of Thessalonica between 1295 and 1315. The monastery was the spiritual centre of the 14th century and was associated with writing and teaching activity of two important Thessalonikian: leading scholars Hellenists Thomas Magister and Matthew Blastari. It has been speculated that the name Agios Panteleimon is borrowing from the North Chapel of the neighbouring Temple, which transferred the vessels of the Temple when it was converted into a mosque by the Ottomans between 1568-1571 called Isakigie Mosque (
