  • It is incredible that almost in the middle of the hustle and bustle of the city, you can find a place as quiet as the place in which this church is located. Perhaps because it is not as well known as others, but the fact is that we were there quite alone. That Yes, don't expect anything spectacular because it is a very small church. But in return, the tranquility that reigns in it is wonderful.

  • The Church of Saint Nicholas orphanos is old Byzantine Catholic monastery in Thessaloniki and a world heritage site, built in the early 14th century. Located at the northeast corner of the old town, inside the walls, between the streets and Irodotou Street Apostolou Pavlou. The name of the temple, Orphaned or orphans, meets for the first time in sources of 17th and 18th century and coincides with the unknown owner of monument that belonged to the family of orphans or in operation at the site of the monastery orphanage, whether attributed to St. Nicholas as patron of widows and orphans. As the founder of the temple has been suggested by researchers the Nikon Skoyterios Kapandritis Orfanos, as well as the right of Serbia, Milutin that due to his marriage with the Princess Simwnida had close ties with Thessaloniki. The kiss of Judas in its current form, the Church is a single-Aisled Basilica with Portico on three sides, roofed with gable roof on the main space. From the murals, the erection of the monument is placed in the context of the Decade 1310-1320. H Abbey continued to operate during the Ottoman occupation. The particularly rich decoration toichografikos came to light in 1957-1960, during work on the monument, and is one of the most representative samples of painting the Palaiologan Renaissance. Worth the visit.
