  • We rented a car and drove from Agia Marina to the agia irini gorge. The trip took about 1, 5 h and went after a very funny way. Once at the site was the free parking. We start of the walk is a simple restaurant serving food and ice cream. Admission to the Park was at €2 per person. The walk is at 7 km and ended up with a similar restaurant it at startup. We didn't go all the way without turned half way and went back to our car. The hike is relatively easy with a wide and nice trails, however, in some quite steep precipice down which may make it more difficult for people with a fear of heights. Some parts of the walk takes place in the Valley and some parts on top of the cliffs so the view ranges from good to nothing at all. We believe that the possibility exists that the late bus back to the start of the hike, but we have not tried this myself. Take with water then it during the dry season does not exist somewhere to get during the walk.

  • Gorge-ous place! Very good alternative to the Samaria gorge but without the crowds, lots of shade and lots of oleanders making it picture perfect. Also a lot easier to organize yourselves with your own car because you can easily walk it up and down again in a day trip. And there are convenient bars at the start and end of the gorge.
  • Just amazing
  • Nice and easy gorge
  • Having planned a visit to the Gorge of Samaria, but being closed due to strong winds, the guides we have hijacked the Gorge of Agia Irini. Agia Irini is shorter than the more famous Samaria (about 5 km against 16 km), less crowded but no less spectacular. The path is not particularly difficult, but you still gotta pay attention to the various ups and downs and the roots on the ground. You will walk among large rock formations, high plane trees and cypresses, Sage plants and more flowers. On route you will also find some RV Parks where fill water bottles and some refreshments. There is also a relatively inexpensive restaurant at the end of the Gorge. Finished the route you will find the small village of Sougia, and the subtle Pebble Beach where you can swim before setting off again.
