#1 of 6 in Things to do in Souda
Tour the remains of massive Roman water cisterns and wander through structures spanning over 2,000 years of history at Ancient Aptera. Walk through an ancient theater, the remnants of several Doric temples, and a Roman peristyle villa, then make your way to the summit of the site for a sweeping view of the area. The uneven ground and climb to the summit may be challenging for people with mobility issues. There are no places to eat or drink, so bring plenty of snacks and water. Be sure to check the attraction's website for opening and closing times, which change seasonally. Put Ancient Aptera at the forefront of your travel plans using our Souda travel planner .

  • Aptera is a featured attraction, which is fortunately also not to run over. In the context of the time of its construction considered, what did the people at the time it is already very impressive. Various eras are recognizable (Hellenic and Roman) also nice, that have shaped the city and also the partially restored theatre. In any case worth a visit.

  • Highly recommended to spend a day with a family. Remember it is closed on Monday and closing at 3pm. Entrance cost just 2eur. Have a great time!
  • Very nice site with information hall and movie. We visit it in November and had the site by us self. May be the best ancient site on Crete together with Eleftherna.
  • A great day trip. Lots to see.
  • The ruins seems nice, but I didn't have much time, as few minutes after my arrival they kicked me out, as they're closing at 2PM which is rather odd for a touristic place. Apparently if you want to visit the place you have to either wake up with the sun, or be ready to be burnt alive by the midday inferno.
  • Very nice and interesting place. Was really good to visit.
