Ancient Aptera, Souda

4.3
#3 of 16 in Historic Sites in Chania Prefecture
Ruin Tourist Spot
Tour the remains of massive Roman water cisterns and wander through structures spanning over 2,000 years of history at Ancient Aptera. Walk through an ancient theater, the remnants of several Doric temples, and a Roman peristyle villa, then make your way to the summit of the site for a sweeping view of the area. The uneven ground and climb to the summit may be challenging for people with mobility issues. There are no places to eat or drink, so bring plenty of snacks and water. Be sure to check the attraction's website for opening and closing times, which change seasonally. • I do not understand that the Aptera ruins are not popular. They liked more than others that have much more fame. The diversity of civilizations and ruins is impressive in a single location. The Roman cistern removed us hiccup. Impressed by the theatre among olive trees. The best of Crete.

  • Who is in Chania and but what want to see from the Greek / Roman and Ottoman times should necessarily then. The excavations are not crowded like in Knossos and the prospect of still, just super. Further down is still an ancient fortress from the Ottoman period, which however was; What a pity.
