Karoumes Beach, Sitia

This beach is a gem. We were all alone, and the snorkeling was also great. Water was a bit chilly at the end of may, but the curious cornetfish were always nearby, sometimes less than a meter away! The hike down the stony gorge to the beach takes about one hour. Is it hard? It depends on your fitness. Fore a fit hiker it's a pleasant stroll, otherwise may be more or less difficult. You can do it in trekking sandals, but good hiking shoes will be way more comfortable. Take water and a hat.

Quiet beach with only a few People. The gorge walk to the beach is nice and easy to do. Take enough food and drinking water with you.

Great place to spend the day worth the walk

Very windy. Check the weather before going there. The wind at the entrance of the george is not an indication of the conditions on the 🏖️

The beach is stunning. You can reach it by foot, through the gorge that comes down all the way from Cochlakies (park by the church, big cars will not be able to reach it through the very narrow streets). It is not a comfortable walk, it takes 1h30 or slightly more, and you have to be in fairly good condition. Bring water. Nothing available on the road or on the beach. When you walk back, you will find a tiny Café in Chochlakies, where a kind man can serve a proper cold coffee.
