Mount Profitis Ilias is a 798 metre high mountain on the Greek island of Rhodes. It is named for the biblical Elijah.GeologyProfitis Ilias is formed of uplifted fault blocks themselves a product of the Hellenide orogeny which produced a stack of Alpine nappes of Mesozoic age. These are part of the Pindos-Olonos series of low-grade metamorphic limestone sediments. The mountain overlooks Middle Miocene-Pleistocene sedimentary basins. Sudden topographic variations and land instabilities are due to a multitude of thrust faults. Ophiolites, usually gabbro occur.BotanyProfitis Ilias is covered with forests of pines and cypress and maquis shrubland. Notable are the Rhodes Paeony Paonia rhodia and Cyclamen persicum. The large parasitic orchid Limodorum abortivum grows in the pinewoods. • This cottage is located in the village of Profitis Elias (Prophet Elijah) on the slope of the mountain of the same name. From Filerimos by airport, Soroni left to Dimilii and here the Navigator took us some goat's paths, bypassing the village of Jeleussa, naprjamki in Profitis Ilias. Covering the asphalt track, good, but that it is narrow, and with such sharp turns, and at the same time on the descent or ascent. The horror! I was afraid of everything, how would an oncoming one had. There, arrived without incident. Could've been emphasized, and maybe because of that little bit climbed into the mountains, there was a noticeably cooler, well, blouses were with them. Air stunned! Stunning views! Can people choose places for Caravan)) knows that Mussolini was never here, and why this House called his name, is not clear. I have something from sletalo "Stalin's dacha. By the way, location (on Mount among pine forests) and the surrounding species (somewhere at the bottom of the sea) is somewhat reminiscent of Stalin's Dacha in Sochi. Despite the fact that noticeably dilapidated mansion, anyway, looks very interesting, feels the former Luxury House apparently not entirely neglected, somebody sweeps dirt, trash. The staircase to the second floor flooded the whiteboards, apparently quite dangerous there.

  • On the way up to Profitis Ilias mountain we stopped first at one of the most famous monastery on Rhodes Fountolukli monastery. This monastery was constructed by a family, wonderful. Then we went up to the mountain, this mountain is so well-liked by the people of Rhodes, they often go over here with their families to relax and often after the tourist season is over and they get time. This is also what would be retirement residence of Mussolini but now is quite dilapidated, but still fun to watch. We walked around the House and could see in front of us how beautiful it was and what a view it had. Too bad it wasn't a better preserved.
