Monolithos Castle, Rhodes

4.7
Perched atop Monopetra, Monolithos Castle offers views of the sea and two small islets below. The castle was built in 1480 to protect the island against potential attacks. To reach the ruins of this ancient castle, climb steep--and sometimes slippery--steps that are cut into the rock face. Along the way, notice the small piles of rocks gathered at the side of the route. Their meaning is unknown. Visit the small chapel inside the castle dedicated to St. Pantaleon. Take some time to appreciate the view from 236 m (774 ft) above the sea. Plan a trip to Kiotari easily and quickly by telling Inspirock to suggest an itinerary.

  • The ruins of the castle of the Hospitaller Knights of 1476, inside the Castle worth special attention is the small 15TH century chapel of St. Guangzhou preserved almost intact. In the old days the castle was one of the four powerful strongholds on the island. From the top there is a beautiful view of the North Coast and the island of Chalki. Breathtaking images which are not able to donate any photographs. Before entering the up I recommend creating hiking boot. Views, views, views!

  • Wonderful views, the shadow, the dream, and below, a typical Greek meal ends with a yoghurt traditional delicious. We there discovered cakes offered for weddings at base of honey and sesame, walnuts, nuts in honey, and on the way back, small producers of honey and olive oil, or d orange liqueur, and scrunchies d here peanut mix of honey and sesame.

  • There isn't all that much left of the castle to visit but even if only for the views, it's definitely worth a visit. As you approach from the main road, it pays to stop and admire the scenery and impressive location of the castle from a distance. There is a quite pretty little chapel/church on the site and the views from the castle itself are superb.
  • Beautiful place. It is mostly a ruin, but the little church is very charming and one is quite tempted to lit a candle, if not out of faith then at least to support the church financially. Stunning views of the sea and islands west of Rhodes. Very sturdy winblown trees growing between the rocks. The taverna next to the castle is nice, but one staff member may have a burn-out as she is shouting to customers.
  • It's really difficult to describe with words the emotions this location creates to the visitors. The breathtaking views and the energy this place is changing is unbelievable. You just have to experience it!!!!
  • The small church was really nice to see. Perfect view on the sea side. Nice place to spend 30 min stop along driving. Recommended
  • Great views. Nice place for visiting in region. Nit worth going especially.
