Palace of Grand Master of Knights, Rhodes Town
(4.4/5 based on 3,200+ reviews on the web)
Part of Rhodes' world-famous medieval old town, Palace of Grand Master of Knights exists as one of the few remaining examples of Gothic architecture in Greece. Built by the Knights of Saint John, a Christian military order which controlled Rhodes from 1309 until 1522, the imposing palace features fairy-tale towers, ramparts, and more than 150 rooms. Remarkably undamaged during the Ottoman siege of the island in the 16th century, the palace suffered massive damage in 1856 when a nearby ammunition storage site exploded. Restored by Italian architect Vittorio Mesturino in the 1930s, the palace then served as a vacation home for dictator Benito Mussolini. Today the palace houses a museum noted for displaying well-preserved Hellenistic and Roman mosaic floors. • Very nice place for vacation. Powerful fortress walls, old houses and streets interspersed with restaurants, cafes and shops and residential buildings, spread all the linen drying after washing, with lots of cats, dogs and crowds of tourists. Interesting place to visit both during the day and especially in the evening when the lights are lit and the streets and buildings are immersed in the historical atmosphere of mystery. Repeatedly there were here nice spending time.

  • The old town of Rhodes is from the top of Greece. the main attraction in this is the Palace of the Grand Masters both internally and externally and not meant to go to Rhodes and not to see; the most important thing is that is in great shape. Rhodes old town well if not you go and you won't regret it.

  • Massive sight and some very interesting exhibits. Currently a Nelson exhibit which I enjoyed. Easy to spend a few hours exploring here and a low entry price.
  • Magnificent place to visit when in Rhodes! It can take one whole day visit if you are one of the ones who easily get lost in narrow streets of a ancient old town.
  • Such a well preserved castle. Short descriptions of exhibits and areas of the castle. Worth the 6 euros entrance fee.
  • Looks fabulous from outside. You should definitely visit this when you're in Old Town. We didn't buy a ticket for inside, I think it doesn't worth 6€ per person.
  • Huge disappointment! You only get to see about a dozen rooms in the castle with mosaics on the floor and barely anything else. You are forbidden from nearing the windows or even thinking about the awesome castle defense walls or the high places which I can only imagine have spectacular views. Go see if you have a weird mosaic fetish... Or visit the much better Arheologic Museum.
