4.5/5 based on 3,000+ reviews on the web
Part of Rhodes' world-famous medieval old town, Palace of Grand Master of Knights exists as one of the few remaining examples of Gothic architecture in Greece. Built by the Knights of Saint John, a Christian military order which controlled Rhodes from 1309 until 1522, the imposing palace features fairy-tale towers, ramparts, and more than 150 rooms. Remarkably undamaged during the Ottoman siege of the island in the 16th century, the palace suffered massive damage in 1856 when a nearby ammunition storage site exploded. Restored by Italian architect Vittorio Mesturino in the 1930s, the palace then served as a vacation home for dictator Benito Mussolini. Today the palace houses a museum noted for displaying well-preserved Hellenistic and Roman mosaic floors. • Looks fabulous from outside. You should definitely visit this when you're in Old Town. We didn't buy a ticket for inside, I think it doesn't worth 6€ per person.
  • The castle is amazing and in a very good condition! Definately recommended when you visit Rhodes and the Old Medieval Town of Rhodes! Tips #1: Ask for the events which are taking place there, like Classic Music nights, etc. in the Palace patio. It is a unique experience! Tip #2: At the entrance of the Palace, on your left, there is the entrance for the walk on the Walls of the Old Medieval Town. It costs 2€ and you have an unique overview of the Town. They don't promote it a lot, but it definitely worth to do it!
  • Large historical construction in a good state. Interesting museum inside allowing to discover the Old city evolution.
  • Great place with huge historical history. It's been an important place for ancient and new Rhodes as one of the most fascinating Castles/Palaces in Balkans. If you ever go to Rhodes you want to make sure you go there or you'll regret it.
  • Great area to visit. Lots of interesting bits of history all around.
