  • Is in contrast to the mosque and is populated by several murals and children playing with bicycles, skates and more. This contrast in any case creates a complex with interesting views and therefore worthy of being visited. The square is also excellent for a stopover!

  • According to its name, this square refers to the greek refugees of the Asia Minor (Mikros) a century ago. If you are lucky, you can enjoy a folklore event  more »
  • This is not just a square it is the only square in the old town and one of the two if they calculate that of the unknown soldier. And is in unacceptable situation almost since its inception. There is no provision for shade. Huge Palm trees (as if they were missing from the city) offer little, the same and the stunted trees planted in a row along the perimeter of the square. But this is not the worst. The square has absolutely no care. Is continuously and permanently dirty. I don't know when they pick up the trash, apparently emptied sometime buckets but for the other points not working. Once there was a rudimentary playground. Sometime they removed what had been spoiled and don't ever built, of course. And it was only that. It is the only square in the world maybe where allowed (surely not prevent anyone however, to not tell me about offenders) the crossing of cars and motorcycles at all times!! Of course people filled the square, the guys are trying to run, young people to breathe, the elderly to spend their time. And compatible with this incredible mess, that clearly shows how much respect the municipal and other authorities to citizens. And obviously after may well make them.

Where to stay in Rethymnon

A growing number of visitors to Rethymnon choose to stay in one of the surrounding villages, where air-conditioned rooms near well-developed beaches cost considerably less than in the city itself. The elegant guesthouses just outside town provide a quiet night's sleep, as well as quick access to good shopping and dining options. If you prefer to stay in the thick of things, book a room near the city's Venetian port, a lively area that's just a walk away from the center's major attractions.
