Heraion of Samos, Pythagorion

Categories: Ruins, Tourist Spots
Inspirock Rating:
3.8/5 based on 320+ reviews on the web
One of the most important ancient sanctuaries dedicated to Hera and a World Heritage Site, still contains one of the tall columns built to support the temple's massive roof structure. The alleged birthplace of Hera, the wife and sister of Greek God Zeus, the site once provided the setting for an annual festival celebrated in honor of the goddess of marriage and the family. The single column still standing provides an ideal backdrop for snapshots of the history-steeped landscape. Round off your visit by exploring nearby Pythagoreion, an ancient city filled with Greek and Roman monuments. • large site with some reconstructions and visitor centre , walk on the processional way and imagine yourself back with the ancient greeks
  • If you don't want to go into the details, can be considered also from the outside. I found the opening hours of hard feelings.

  • There are still the foundation walls of the temple. Unfortunately, there is no leadership in which you can learn about the history. So you must help yourself with a guide in paper form
