Heraion of Samos, Pythagorion

(3.8/5 based on 320+ reviews on the web)
One of the most important ancient sanctuaries dedicated to Hera and a World Heritage Site, still contains one of the tall columns built to support the temple's massive roof structure. The alleged birthplace of Hera, the wife and sister of Greek God Zeus, the site once provided the setting for an annual festival celebrated in honor of the goddess of marriage and the family. The single column still standing provides an ideal backdrop for snapshots of the history-steeped landscape. Round off your visit by exploring nearby Pythagoreion, an ancient city filled with Greek and Roman monuments. Using our custom trip planner, Samos attractions like Heraion of Samos can form part of a personalized travel itinerary.

  • That is left of the larger Temple of antiquity in Herodotus of the 155 columns is left only an upright generally the space was a little paratimenos from the grasses and reeds but even so shows a piece of the rich Greek history!

  • Lots of ancient history, by the sea. A relaxing tour.
  • Make sure you visit this ancient place while on Samos!
  • The remains of the temple of Hera, UNESCO site. There is only one complete column left of the temple but still it is very impressive and worth a visit. A lot of history to see.
  • Beautiful place
  • The remains of the temple are nice to see. You have to go here if you visit Samos.
