Cyclades Olive Museum, Pitrofos

4.9
Cyclades Olive Museum occupies a carefully restored olive mill boasting an impressive history dating back to the early 19th century. One of the best-preserved examples of an animal-powered olive mill in the country, this facility offers a look into an important local industry, which influenced practically every sphere of daily life for centuries. The building itself represent a fine example of Cycladic architecture, with the ground floor dedicated to the museum. Inside it, you can watch an informative video and listen to a talk about the pre-industrial type of oil production, which was usually performed by local families. • Dimitris is a fascinating man with a beautiful life story he is very willing to share. His work in restoring this mill to its past glory has provided future generations with a gem to be proud of. Go there, meet him and hear his tale. You'll also learn which olive oil to buy and which to turn away from. Entrance is free however you will without a doubt want to leave a small tip at the end as a token of appreciation.
  • Wonderful place, an old restored olive factory. A lot of history and interesting facts about Greek olive oil. The guide speaks great English. A recommended visit if you want some cultural activity on Andros
  • Very nice host . Interesting story which lasts around 90 minutes
  • Great time, the owner is passionate and exciting, it has perfectly staged the visit, and his kindness and sense of humor add to the quality of the reception.

  • A lot of work on the part of the owner to revive this place. The result is a very comprehensive Museum because really in condition to make olive oil (the proof by image with band sound and film). The tour of the facility is very well punctuated by the guide, our host in person! Short go for it absolutely, generous welcome and... free rate and more!
