Beach
One of Santorini's black volcanic beaches, Perissa Black Sand Beach remains popular for its calm waters and abundance of sea life. Lined with rustic seafood taverns, the beach offers you a chance to snorkel or windsurf the turquoise sea during the day, and explore the island's popular dining and entertainment options at night. The site lies in the shadows of the Profitis Ilias, a 560 m (1,800 ft) high mountain that protects the coastline from the harsh Aegean winds. A rugged trail starts just above the beach and leads to the ruins of an ancient Christian church, which you can explore on foot or by riding a donkey. Our Perissa vacation route planner makes visiting Perissa Black Sand Beach and other Perissa attractions simple, and helps you make a travel plan personal to you.

  • Delicious Beach-free if you even have towel with and spectacular due to the black volcanic sand. The fed to stay there and with beautiful view to the mountains and out over the sea to another island.

  • I had never seen black sand before, so this was a new experience for me. I really loved it. The water was almost dark blue against the black sand... beautiful contrast!
  • Nice Beach, cove like on its far end with the cliffs. But it is a very windy beach, be sure to get a sunbed or umbrella with a way to tie down bags or clothing. Expect to pay around 10 euro for a pair of sunbeds and an umbrella, 5 euro for a back row pair if you are lucky and early on a low traffic day.
  • My first time on a black beach. Its fascinating to see the contrast of the black sand (mostly rocks) and the clear blue waters. The beach has a comfortable, chilled out vibe with lots of beach shacks and umbrellas lining the promenade. Bonus:you get WiFi on the beach if you are sitting at any of the shacks! There is no sand on the beach and it's uncomfortable to walk barefoot on the beach. The water is calm and wonderful to swim in.
  • We drove down to Persia Beach from Fira. It was amazing to see the black rocks instead of sand. Water looks crystal clear. Be aware that the chairs are colour coded and are owned by the restaurant/bar/Cafe that is behind them. They will get you to buy something and if you say no, they will try and charge you to "use" the chairs and umbrellas.
  • Sand is hot obviously, a little crowded in peak season. Can use umbrellas if you get stuff from the restaurants.
