  • Much has happened in Messene since our last visit 13 years ago. The excavations continue, and in the meantime it has uncovered many more parts of the ancient mega-city. Rarely, you have the chance to experience the complexity of an entire city in such a good state of preservation at archaeological sites. In addition iThome very picturesque is the ancient city on the slopes of the mountain, and was not too crowded during our visit as such as Olympia. We were thrilled and recommend this goal at a Peloponnese tour schedule. The entrance fee is currently 12,00 Euro p. P.

  • Very nice plant! Wide range of structures: STOA, theatre, Stadium, Temple, Asklepion, mosaic floors, city wall and gates etc. Everything is also close together and well described. At the entrance, there is also a booklet with well-made reconstruction drawings and brief background information. But especially much is (progressing the stadium) great get! So here something you see and can imagine better as it once was. Maybe not the historical awareness other sites, but no less worth seeing!

  • Very nice site, quite small so easy to visit and enjoy. The stage is beautifully preserved, and all is sufficiently well developed to engage our teens and their parents (compared to other sites to make an effort of imagination).

  • Stunning site everything in one place, ruins, theatre. Temples. gymnasium. Fountains. Running water. Amphitheatre. Greek and later Roman. museum. See also nearby arcades gate
  • Amazing to see so many ancient buildings, it is really big and they did build a lot back up.
  • Unbelievable location in a great state of preservation. By far the most impressive objective in the Peloponnese peninsula. Saw it at Golden hour in late September. Breathtaking!
  • One of the best preserved archaeological sites in Greece! A "must" see both in Messinia and in Peloponnesus.
  • By far Ancient Messene is the best and most well preserved ancient site. After visiting the Acropolis, Ancient Messene should be your second destination. Fortunately the site has not been destroyed by recent settlements and the excevations by the archaeologist Themelis has an excellent result. Include it in your itinerary and you will not forget it.
